Even though it’s not a modern beverage, vermouth is trendy. Meeting up to drink vermouth is one of the most rooted traditions for locals in Madrid. It’s a drink that gets you hooked up. Either dry, semidry or sweet. White, rosé or red. It’s the king of the appetiser and in Madrid it has a wide variety of places where you can have it.

- La Ardosa: (C/ Colón, 13): We start this great route through one of the most typical bars in Madrid. A small place, with a genuine feel and an excellent tap vermouth. If you accompany it with a nice tortilla de patatas you’ll surely reach heaven.
- Tipos Infames (C/ San Joaquín, 3): Library, café, wine cellar, exhibit room… it has it all! An unavoidable stop in Malasaña to taste a nice vermut surrounded by books. Additionally, you can buy and take a bottle home.
- La Castela (C/ Doctor Castelo, 22): We couldn’t forget this one in our particular route. This is a lifelong bar, opened in 1929. The vermouth you can taste here is Martínez Lacuesta, and comes with a free
- Taberna Arzábal (Avenida de Menéndez Pelayo, 13): Arzábal represents the concept of a tavern as a great restaurant. It has a bar counter that is filled with raciones and tapas, and also has an ample selection of vermuts. A must in the Retiro area.
- Taberna Ángel Sierra (C/Gravina, 11): In Chueca, one of the most eclectic and fun neighbourhoods in Madrid where you can find this tavern that has the amazing fame of serving one of the best tap vermouths in the capital. It’s also one of the most beautiful ones.
- Bodegas Rosell (C/General Lacy, 14): From 1920 with a great deal of raciones, amazing wines (over 200, and a wide selection by wineglasses), and of course, a great vermut.
