The bao fever arrives to Madrid

Published on July 20, 2017 by Madrid SmartRentals

Have you tried the fashion type of muffin? The baos (or buns) are a type of sweet Asian breads cooked in steam and that can be filled with any ingredient. In Madrid it’s easy to find them in the menu of many restaurants, and in the latest months there’s been a true invasion. This is a list of just some of the places in Madrid where you can enjoy this type of healthier sandwich. Don’t resist to the bao fever!

  • StreetXO (Calle Serrano, 52): In the lowcost of the famous chef David Muñoz you will find one of the first baos that arrived to Spain a couple of years ago. A finger-licking bite. It has many varieties. Don’t miss the pigs dewlap, it’s delicious. You’ll cry of hapiness.
  • TukTuk (several locations): You’ll feel like buying a flat in Castellana street to its Sexy SiaoBao with pig stew, coriander, mint, basil, red onion, Japanese mayonnaise and Siracha sauce. With the home-cooked bread. The softness of the bread and the power of the ingredients is just incredible.
  • La Chusquery: (Calle Mancebos, 2): You have to try the Chinese baos, with the classic oriental recipe adapted to the Spanish tastes: low-cooked bacon, lettuce, soya sauce and herbs. You won’t be able to eat just one.
  • Buns & Bones (Mercado de Antón Martín, Calle Santa Isabel, 5): a restaurant specialized in baos, with a varied offer. It has very original choices (as the tomato meatballs bao), but our favourite one is the crab bao with romescu sauce. A divine bite.
  • Bacira (Calle del Castillo, 16): It’s a restaurant with Mediterranean asiatic-fusion. The bao they serve is filled with veal gizzard, mint, chimichurri, cucumber and yellow pepper. Delicious!

And you, where would you like to go to try this tasty bite?
