Spain is a country where food and the care with which food is prepared are very important things. In this sense, visiting some of Madrid’s markets is one of the best ways to put together gastronomy, tourism and architecture. Today we’re going to show you the most important markets in Madrid, so you have a clear route set during your visit to the Spanish capital.

A route through Madrid’s markets

Madrid has a wide variety of food markets, where you can, not only buy great quality goods, but also taste gastronomic delights, enjoy architectural jewels and have a great walk through the city. These are some of the best food markets in Madrid:

  • San Antón: Located in one of the most cosmopolitan and fun neighbourhoods. The San Antón market is right in Chueca’s centre, it has an elegant restaurant with a great terrace, and a wide variety of food stands where you can also enjoy activities and workshops.
  • Mercado de Moncloa: As well as in San Antón, in Mercado de Moncloa, there’s much more than only space for great gastronomy. In this commercial area you can enjoy live concerts from jazz to pop.
  • Mercado de San Miguel: The San Miguel market and its amazing iron and glass structure are a great attraction by themselves. This is a protected urban monument where you can enjoy some shopping and some great tapas.
  • Mercado de san Ildefonso: An urban and varied market where you can enjoy live performances and activities.
