Carnival in Madrid

What do you know about the Madrid carnival? From February the 24 th to the 1st of March Madrid dresses literary for partying. In this period Madrid’s Carnival takes place. Masks, Fancy dresses, and the craziest and fun attires mix in the street parades and also in other events, giving a colourfulshine to the city that for a few days forgets about all the tiresome day-to-day routines.

Today we’re going to tell you about Madrid’s Carnival,as well as some of the events you shouldn’t miss.

During Madrid’s Carnival you can enjoy a wide variety of workshops, parades, exhibitions, dances and activities for the little ones, comparsas and chirigotas (ironic and witty comical songs) and all kinds of events that fill the city of colour.

Some of the most famous Madrid Carnival parades is the one in Puente de Vallecas (Friday 24th of February at 17:30)Animation Groups, batukadas (percussion exhibitions) and musical bandswill perform during the parade which begins in Avenida Buenos Aire sand ends in Plaza de Puerto Rubio where there will be free drinking Hot chocolate Spanish Styles for everyone.

Another interesting event that you may wish to attend is the Royal Carnival Gala in the Royal Theatre. TheSanta Cecilia Classic Orchestra ,conducted  by  Guillermo Figueroa, will play Dvorak, Berlioz, Paganini, Puccini o Antonio Carlos Jobim pieces amongst others.

There are lots of Carnival exhibitions, activities and workshops for the little ones as well as Carnival theatreplays.

Also the Carnaval Post of the Círculo de Bellas Artes is worth mentioning. This masquerade has some of the best DJ’s and orchestras that will make this day even more special. Carlos Jean, Deiv Hook o Carlos Ardiya are some of the DJ’s that will take part in this that allows visitantsto discover some of the ball rooms and special corners of this important and enigmatic building of Madrid’s cultural and socialscene. This event will take place on February 25th .
