Published on January 30, 2017 by Madrid SmartRentals

One of the best (and biggest) pleasures in life in the city is to stop what we’re doing for a moment to think and relax with a great cup of coffee. Madrid is a city with a wide variety of places to enjoy coffee. In today’s post, from Gran Vía Capital, we would like to tell you about the best cafés in Madrid.

Best cafés in Madrid

We would like to show you the most emblematic cafés and the ones that we think are best for those moments of peace and quiet in the crowded city.

  • Café Varela: Located in Preciados 37, Café Varela dates back to the 19th Century. Spanish writers such as Eduardo Alonso, PíoBaroja, Rafael Azcona or Unamuno had quite a few literary social gatherings in this emblematic café.
  • Café Central Madrid: In Plaza del Ángel 10. In addition to its great coffee they organise concerts of all types since 1982. It’s a must for jazz lovers.
  • Café Espejo: Situated in Paseo de Recoletos 31. First opened in 1978, it’s the perfect place not only for a coffee but also to enjoy its art nouveau decoration and great gastronomy.
  • Mür Café: English-style coffee shop in Plaza CristinoMartos 2. They have a very interesting brunch on weekends.
  • El 17 de Moreto: Its name clearly indicates its location (Calle de Moreto 17) right in the Jerónimos neighbourhood and very close by to the Art Walk, Retiro and the Royal Botanical Garden. It has a great terrace, a very nice chill-out area and a brunch on weekends.
  • Café Barbieri: Other of the most emblematic choices. Since 1902 this café in Calle Ave María 25 is a great opportunity to go back in time to the 19th Century Madrid.
