Typical Madrid dishes

Madrid is a city to enjoy with all your senses. The capital of Spain doesnot only offer  you culture, leisure and fun but a great deal of amaizing culinary  experiences. Today we want to introduce you to some of the typical Madrid’s dishes, so you can get a taste of Madrid for all your senses,and fullyinmerse in the city.

Madrid is a cultural crossroad, that is why its gastronomy is a meltdown of different areastaking ideas and making them their own from other parts of Spain. es un cruce de caminos.

Main Dishes

This are some of the best known typical Madrid’s dishes:

  • Cocido madrileño:(Soup,pulses and meat stew) The most renowned dish in Madrid’sgastronomy. This stew consisting of chickpeas,vegetables, chicken and beef  amongst other ingredients its served in “tres vuelcos ”(three servings) making this a three course meal on its own. First you take the soup, then you take the vegetables with the chickpeas and lastly you take all the different types of meats and cold meats.
  • Callos a la madrileña:(Madrid style tripe) this dish its served all over Spain with different variations, the Madrid style callos  are prepared with beef or lamb tripe, chorizo (Spanish spicy sausage) and morcilla (rice and onion black pudding) and hot paprika. It’s a very filling dish not apt for the delicate eaters.
  • Gallinejas:(Chitterlings) this dish it’s made with a base of lamb entrails seasoned and fried. It’s more of a side dish that a main course . It’s usually. Served as tapas..
  • Garlic Soup:typical in winter , this lightly garlic flavoured soup it’s ideal to recharge batteries and give you instant energy. Made with broth, bread, garlic, paprika ,bay leaves and olive oil. It’s normally serve with an egg that it’s broken over the boiling soup and cooks on the broth heat almost instantly.
  • Madrid seabream :this dish it’s a baked fish with onions,potatoes,garlic, black pepper, parsley ,white wine, lemon juice and zest and a toasted bread crumbs.:.

For dessert , we recommend you that you try the buñuelos de viento (light airy dough filled with cream or custard)  , provides a sweet end to your meal.

Madrid Tapas

We told you previously about the best places where to have Tapas in Madrid . One of the main achievements in Spanish cooking generally and in Madrid’s one in particular is to have been able to take tapas everywhere and make them into culinary art.

Some of the most important examples of tapas that you can ordered in the bars and restaurants in Madrid are the patatas bravas (fierce potatoes, spicy fiery hot sauce in olive oil fried potatoes) the renowned tortilla de patatas ( Spanish Tortilla with infinite variations of the classical just egg , potatoes and onions) the huevos  estrellados ( literally broken eggs over fries ) grilled pigs ear or escargot Madrid style.
