Get to know the most special forests in Madrid

The transition between autumn and spring is one of the best times to enjoy a walk with nature. In addition to a wide variety of gardens and parks within the city limits, there’s also a great deal of forests and green zones in the capital’s vicinities to breakaway for a couple of hours. Hayedo de Montejo

The Hayedo de Montejo is an amazing beech forest of over 250 hectares in the Ayllon mountain, in Montejo de la Sierra. If you want to take place in the guided tours, you will need to previously contact the Centro de Educación Ambiental del Hayedo de Montejo (i.e. Environmental centre of education of the Montejo Beech Forest). The beech woods were declared a natural interest site in 1974. Here you will discover an important flora as well as different animal species: roe deer, wild boar, badger, goshawk, tawny owl, wild cat…

Bosque de la Herrería

The Herrería forest is managed by the National Heritage, and has ecological paths and routes prepared for visitors, with informative and educational signs and posts. A big point in favour for this forest is that it has various paths adapted for handicapped people.

El Bosque Encantado (The enchanted forest)

What an intriguing name, right? This botanical garden and theme park is in San Martín de Valdeiglesias. With over 500 different vegetal species, you can also find creative sculptures in bushes and hedges.

On top of walking the routes in this forest, one of the great pleasures you can take in this space is to get lost in its different corners.
