Karaoke was created in Japan, as a way to socialize and relax in a business meeting. This way of singing on top of popular songs, following the lyrics that appear on the screen, first appeared in 1971. The translation from Japanese literally means empty orchestra.

The Western civilization quickly imported the fondness for karaoke, and even though its popularity declined at the end of the 90’s, its fame has grown once more. In Madrid, there’s a wide variety of places where you can enjoy singing along. Today we tell you all about them.

  • Master Plató: Located in Plaza de losMostenses, this karaoke has a wide variety of songs in Spanish, English, French and Italian. From ABBA to ZZ Top, here you can find a bit of everything.
  • Cher’s: One of the oldest in town. Not in vain, it has been open since 1991. As all of the places of this sort, it’s frequently used for stag and hen parties, company dinners, meetings… this karaoke in CalleHuertas, 50 has a very complete list of hits.
  • La Maripepa: Strange name don’t you think? This Karaoke has been giving colour to Madrid’s life for more than a quarter of a Century. In CalleJesús, 7, very close to the Prado Museum.
  • Karaoke Marfil: In the 63rd of Modesto Lafuente. Over 24,000 songs in different languages, and two independent rooms perfect for private parties.
  • Central Park: Since 1997, it has songs in Spanish, Portuguese, English, French, Italian and… Tagalog!
  • Kakatana: In Avenida de América, 22. The Kakatana is a modern and large karaoke in the exclusive Barrio de Salamanca.
  • Kapikas: Located in José CastánTobenas. It’s probably the oldest one in Madrid (open since 1980). It has more than 20,000 songs for you to enjoy.
