Magic in castles

Published on March 3, 2017 by Madrid SmartRentals

In his immortal ‘Axis bold as love‘ album, Jimi Hendrix sang about the Spanish castle magic. Even though the guitar player was referring to a club in Seattle with this curious name, this soundtrack serves as inspiration for today’s post.

Today we’re going to take you through some of the most important castles in Madrid.

Route through the castles of Madrid

Madrid has a series of very impressive fortifications where very important episodes of Spanish history took place. Today we would like to show you just some of them.

The Autonomous Community of Madrid’s castle network

This label puts together six perfectly preserved edifications that you can visit in the region. These are Christian fortifications from the Middle Ages and castles from the late Middle Ages. These are constructions that date back to the 13th Century and up to the 16th Century.

We’re referring to the following examples of civil and military architecture:

  • Castillo de la Coracera in San Martín de Valdeiglesias (15th Century). In case its beauty isn’t enough, you can enjoy a varied wine collection. It was the temporary residence of Isabella I of Castile.
  • Castillo de los Mendoza inManzanares del Real (15th Century). This was the spot chosen for the creation of Madrid’s Assembly and has also been declared an Historical-Artistic Monument in 1931.
  • Castillo de Don Gonzalo Chacón in Arroyomolinos(15th Century).
Back in the day it was residence to many important people, including Phillip III.

If these examples are not enough, (although we doubt it), following this link you have a few more examples. Castillo de Torremocha, La Torre de Arroyomolinos, La Torre de Éboli in Pinto,or the Batres castle are just other examples of the amazing legacy still preserved in the Autonomous Community of Madrid.
