How to get to Madrid from the airport

Published on March 3, 2017 by Madrid SmartRentals

The Madrid-Barajas Airport is, together with El Prat, the most important in Spain, and one of the key connection points of the old continent. Barajas is nearly a city in itself, where thousands of people arrive every day to visit the city. Today we would like to tell you how to get to the city once the plane has landed in the airport.

How to get to Madrid from Madrid-Barajas

To get to the city from the airport you have several options. Don’t be scared if it’s your first time in the city. It’s not complicated to arrive once your feet have touched the ground.

By car

If you have a vehicle waiting for you to take you from Madrid’s airport, your best option is to take the M-40 to the city. It’s about 25-30 minutes (18km). You can also use the A-2, M-11 or M-30, although in these cases, the distance is greatest and the traffic jams are more common, especially in the first hours of the morning (rush hours) and the last days of the holidays.

By Taxi

If you don’t have a car or renting a car for your stay in Madrid is not in your plans, you can always take a taxi to the city. In every terminal you will find official taxi stands (they are white with red bands and Madrid’s emblem). The journey between the airport and the city centre has a fixed price of 30€.

By Bus

The 101 line, or the express 200 line give you the opportunity of getting to the centre in a comfortable and easy way. Following this link you can find our more information regarding these lines, the routes and prices.

By Metro

You can also take the Metro from the airport to Madrid. To the price of the normal ticket you have to add a 3€ surcharge. Line number 8 connects the airport to the centre although take into account that until the 18th of April of 2017 the pink line will be closed for maintenance.
