Guide to visit Madrid in La Almudena

Published on November 3, 2016 by Madrid SmartRentals

If you want to visit Madrid during the Almudena Festivities on next Wednesday (one of the most important dates for locals), today in Madrid Smart Rentals we would like to show you a series of plans to celebrate La Almudena like a proper madrileño.

Fiestas de La Almudena in Madrid

The festivities of La Almudena (patron saint of Madrid) are one of the most important ones for locals. Flowers, processions, chulapos and chulapas parade, sweet fritter tastings… if you’re visiting Madrid in La Almudena, there’s a wide variety fo plans for you not to miss.

Starting the day with energy

To start a day off, what better way than with a great breakfast. The Almudena day, bakers and pastry chefs will prepare the classic ‘crowns’. This is probably one of the most traditional pastries in the Spanish capital. A spongy ring-shaped cake with a flour base, butter, eggs and milk.

The procession

Regardless of if you are one of the faithful or not, going to the procession of the La Almudena virgin is truly an amazing show. In addition to the religious images, you will be able to see an alternative procession with local people dressed up with the typical costumes from the city (chulapos y chulapas)

The La Almudena procession
goes through streets in the centre just as Postas, Esparteros, Calle Mayor and Bailén, finally finishing in the La Almudena square. We also think you should assist to the floral offering that takes place in that same square.

Other plans

Besides the plans surrounding this festivity, on November the 9th there’s also quite a few events you will surely be interested on. For the sporty, at 9am that same day the Popular race GOfit starts in Paseo de San Francisco de Sales.

And in regards to the music part, the Teatro Monumental holds at 7:30pm another of the Municipal Symphonic Band concerts that belongs to the Autumn Cicle. Changing syles, that same day at 9pm (in Sala Clamores), an amazing concert of the legendary saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis takes place.
