Going all over Madrid by bicycle

Now that the good weather and the sunshine start to be regular, we try to leave the clouds and cold behind. Days are getting longer which encourages us to spend more time in the open air. If you’re coming to Madrid this spring, one of the best things to do is to go through some of the bike routes you can find. Our city puts to your disposal a wide variety of options and paths.

Infobicimadrid is a very useful tool that the City Hall makes available to the open-air sports enthusiasts. This web shows information regarding the different routes prepared for cyclists in Madrid’s districts, from Arganzuela to Vallecas.

This online tool lets you filter the touring cyclist routes in Madrid based on:

– Recommended streets in the city / other surrounding municipality

– Bicycle parking

– Leisure itineraries.

– Planned cycling tracks.

– Residential areas.

Also, with this web you will be able to use Street View to properly plan your itineraries, and measure the distance between Point ‘A’ and Point ‘B’.

Suggested visits

If you’re going to spend some time in Madrid and you don’t want to give up exercising your legs, there’s a series of recommended and interesting options. In the centre of Madrid, you can find prepared circuits in Madrid Río for example, with 14km overall.

Likewise, the ‘Vía Ciclista Mayor Alcalá’ joins together East and West of the city, from Madrid Río to the cyclist route of O’Donell and is approximately 9km long. In the same way, the ‘Anillo Verde Ciclista de Madrid’ is a ring road of over 65 km specifically designed for cycling enthusiasts.

Every 1,500 metres cyclists have a set out rest area so you can establish training or riding sections according to the cyclist neccesities

It goes by both green areas and purely urban zones.

In this link, Madrid’s City Hall gives some information of 10 touristic and leisure routes that you can do partly or entirely by bicycle. From the centre of the city to the artisan area.
