Madrid is a city with history. Also its shops and businesses. One of the greatest pleasures of travelling to Madrid is to wander through the streets and get lost around all the different antiquities shops. Today, we’re going to go over some of these stores, and we’re also going to tell you all about an amazing event you can’t miss if you’re an enthusiast of these types of objects and furniture with history.

FERIARTE, the most important fair of antique art in Madrid (and one of the essentials in Spain) celebrates in 2016 its 40th anniversary. The International Fair of Art and Antiques offers antique shops and gallery owners in our country the perfect platform to show their work to the public.

This event takes place in Ifema from the 19th to the 27th of November and its goal is to promote the proper care and certification of quality of the pieces  that are exhibited. From archaeological pieces to works of art, passing through jewellery products, furniture, decoration or collectables. In the International Fair of Art and Antiques you can find object of various types of arts just as Art Decó, Art Nouveu, Edwardian, Pre-Columbian…

All the pieces on exhibit and for sale are thoroughly examined previously by an expert committee, who certify the authenticity of such objects, that have to be at least 100 years old.

Best antique shops in Madrid

If the International Fair of Art and Antiques still leaves you the desire to explore the painting, furniture, jewellery and decoration history, in Madrid you can find a few very important antique stores:

  • Entredós Antigüedades (Ortega y Gasset, 8): A classic in the antique business in Madrid. Its catalogue covers jewels, decorative objects, furniture and paintings. They have over two decades of experience in this sector.
  • Antigüedades Rolle Sánchez (Calle del Prado, 9): Over four generations at the service of antique enthusiasts in Madrid. They specialise in 19th century paintings, bronze objects and pieces for display.
  • Linares Antigüedades (Columela, 3): This antique shop was first opened in 1883. It has a more than large collection of objects of different times and places.
