Alternative cinema in Madrid
In our previous post we told you about places such as La Casa Encendida, Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo or Sala Berlanga. Prepare a pen and paper to take note of the following recommendations:
- Renoir Retiro: We had to put this one on the list, however we can’t say that it’s completely alternative, or that every movie projected here is not commercial. However, this cinema does let you enjoy movies in an alternative way to most movie theatres. This cinema has its movies in the original versions with subtitles.
- Caixa Fórum: It’s not a cinema per se although Caixa Fórum gives you the opportunity of enjoying alternative movies in Madrid, independent cinema and movie cycles fully dedicated to new artists and classics.
- Cine Doré: Located in Calle Santa Isabel, the Cine Doré is the exhibition hall of the Filometeca Española (e. Spanish film library), that is also used for the different projections that take place in their programme. It has three different rooms where you can enjoy from movie classics, to biopics, thematic movie cycles… more than to see independent cinema in Madrid, Cine Doré is perfect for those who would like to enjoy the best cinema classics.
- Artistic Metropol: The enthusiasts of class b cinema, documentaries, short-films, fantasy or terror cinema, or micro theatre have found their oasis in this movie theatre in Madrid. It mainly centres in science fiction and horror movies, although they have a bit of everything. They have monthly flat rates to enjoy a wide variety of movies.
