The most important squares in Madrid

One of the best things that Autumn has in Madrid is the ability of going out for a walk and being able to comfortably get lost in its streets, enjoy reading a nice book or just our own thoughts in the many squares the city has to offer.

Today, in the first part of this post, we want to tell you about some of the most important squares in Madrid, or at least, the ones we love the most.

Plaza Mayor

Point of encounter, crossway and strategic location. Madrid’s Plaza Mayor, built between 1580 and 1620, is a true jewel of the Spanish Baroque architecture and holds throughout the year various events, fairs and markets, such as the Christmas one.

Plaza de Santa Ana

Located in the heart of the famous Barrio de Las Letras, the Plaza Santa Ana is also one of the most special corners in Madrid. Very visited and well-known yes, but it has an amazing view of the city and you can enjoy some of the best cañas of the city

Plaza de la Villa de París

Located just next to the Supreme Court. It feels like Paris because of its surroundings and the late 19th century buildings .

Puerta del Sol

The square that never sleeps. A place to meet friends and to celebrate the end of the year. The Puerta del Sol square is one of the most visited places of the Spanish capital.

Plaza De Oriente

beautiful silhouettes and façades of the Royal Palace and Theatre can be perfectly admired from this square. Ended in the 19th century this is one of the most elegant places in the city and one of the most loved by locals.

Plaza de la Villa

One if the oldest in town. You can visit this lovely spot and find the astonishing Casa de la Villa or the Cardenal Cisneros house. An unique place.

Plaza del Dos de Mayo

A classic for tourists and locals. It’s situated right in the centre of Malasaña, surrounded by a wide variety of shops, cafés and restaurants. It was built as a tribute to the day that locals rebelled against Napoleon’s troops during the Spanish independence war.
