August festivities in Madrid

Throughout the month of August, the city and the region of Madrid enjoy different popular festivities; an ideal way to know the essence of this city and the region where it is located.

Both in the capital and the rest of the region, in this month plenty of verbenas and festivals take place. An ideal plan to have fun while you get to know the soul of the real madrileños and madrileñas.

Festivities in the city

Typical costumes, concerts, dances … Some of the most important verbenas and festivals take place in the city of Madrid in august. These are the most important one´s that you still can enjoy.

San Lorenzo

In this popular neighbourhood takes place (just next to the church that gives it name) between the 9th and the 11th of August the San Lorenzo festivities. The Argumosa, Salitre and Olivar streets are filled with activities during those days. A great deal of music concerts, gastronomic competitions and tastings, popular games, dance contests… you will surely find an activity that suits you.

La verbena de la Paloma

The most important open-air celebration, and most renowned festivity in Madrid. The popular verbena de la Paloma takes place between the 12th and 15th of August.

The Vistillas and Paja squares, and the Paloma and Águila streets are some of the focal points of these celebrations. In addition to concerts, parades, costumes and dance contests, in the Verbena de la Paloma there will also be activities for children, and passacaglia.

Other festivities in the region

Verbenas and festivals are not excusively held in Madrid in August. Other towns in the region hold important celebrations this month.

San Sebastian de los Reyes

From the 25th to the 31st of August the festival of San Sebastian de los Reyes takes place, with different musical performances, shows and, how could it be otherwise, it’s very famous encierro.

Golden Age Market in Navalcarnero

From the 26th to the 28th of August the town of Navalcarnero goes back to the Spanish Golden Age. Different characters, places, costumes and performances will make you travel back in time to the seventeenth century. There will be different tastings, concerts, shows and recreations of historical events.
