The seventh art enthusiasts, specially of the most risky and modern one, can write down a date on their calendars within the next few weeks. From the 2nd to the 11th of June takes place in the Cinema Festival of Madrid, and event that bets on the genre exploration, movies and authors with a personal language and, in this sense, they’re far away from the commercial circuits.

This year is the second edition of the Filmadrid festival. 60 different fiction and not fiction films from all parts of the world are going to be shown. Approximately half of them are going to take part in two official contests: Official competition and Avant–Garde competition.

More than 3,000 spectators and visitants went to last years’ edition, organised by the Pasajes de Cine entity, that searches to promote cinema with a more independent and innovative feel. It’s objective is to make that independent productions with a marked authorial character have more luck and visibility in conventional cinemas.

The Cinema Festival of Madrid in its third edition in 2016 counts with three world premieres as well as the first display in Spain of 16 movies. Francofonia, by the director Aleksadr Sokurov will be the opening film and 11 minutes, from Jerzy Skolimowsky will be the movie that puts an end to this event.

The Festival will honour the Portuguese movie director Manoel de Oliveira and Chantal Akerman, deceased last year and whose last film will be premiered in the event.

The Cine Paz of Madrid (Calle Fuencarral, 125) will be the “centre of operations” of this festival, although it will count with other places that will host talks, workshops or encounters with artists and directors: La Casa Encendida, Filmeteca Nacional, Artistic Metropol, Reina Sofia, Escuela Universitaria TAI or the Conde Duque Santa Engracia cinemas.

Madrid’s Cinema Festival will also program audiovisual samples and visits through some of Madrid’s locations that have appeared in Spanish and international movies.
