A scary festival

We all like to feel a bit frightened from time to time. That kind of inherent masochism in the human being explains the incredible success of horror and mistery-related theme parks all over the world, as well as the good health of horror movies, without a doubt one of the most popular and profitable cinematographic genres.

Science fiction, horror and fantasy films is what aficionados are going to be able to enjoy from the 23rd to the 29th of May in Madrid. In these dates the Festival Nocturna takes place in the capital. You can enjoy this horror and fantasy festival in Madrid in the Palafox cinemas (calle Luchana, 15), in the Chamberí neighbourhood.

This event has different sections. In competition you will find Nocturna Oficial, Nocturna Dark Visions (dedicated to the more modern fantasy genre), Nocturna Madness (more violent films) and Shots, fully dedicated to short movies.

Out of the competition,  you will be able to see other singular pieces in the inauguration party, tributes to some of the fantasy cinema masters, presentation of Spanish and international productions that aren’t competing, classical movies’ retrospectives…

Renown guests

One of the last edition’s Nocturna star guests was no less than Robert Englund, the actor that incarnated the beloved and also frightening Freddy Krueger. Also, the famous director Álex de la Iglesia was seen at the event.

During the 2016 festival two special prizes will be given. In the one hand, the Vincent Price award to the best actor, and on the other, the Paul Naschy award, to the best production.

Both prizes are a tribute to two of the most important fantastic and horror movie figures of the international panorama. If you want to feel a bit scared and enjoy some of the legendary classics of fantasy and horror movies, then you have a date in Madrid.
