A day at the races

We borrow the title of one of the best Marx Brothers movies to suggest a very original plan in the city. The Spring Season of the Zarzuela de Madrid racetrack officially started the 6^th of March. Up until June and every Sunday, the enthusiasts have the chance of enjoying horse racing in Madrid in an ideal scene, as in 2016 the racetrack celebrates its 75^th birthday. Put on your Sunday best, your pamela or top hat (you can actually wear casual clothes if you prefer) and enjoy a fun sport full of adrenaline and emotion.

The racetrack

As we noted before, Madrid’s racecourse turns 75 years old in 2016. The Spanish architect Eduardo Torroja inaugurated these facilities that represent a landmark of Madrid’s 20^th Century’s architecture. This monument, declared ‘Bien de Interés Cultural’ (i.e. ‘Heritage of Cultural Interest’) seven years ago, has in the corbel of the stand one of the most characteristic visual elements.

The fixtures

Horse racing days in Madrid in the Zarzuela racetrack usually take place every Sunday at 11:30 am with the exception of the ones in June, that start at 17:30 pm. In every one of these days you will have the chance to enjoy six high-level races.

Amongst these the following stand out: ‘Gran Premio de Madrid’ (26^th of June), ‘Gran PremioNacional’ (8^th of May), ‘Gran Premio Duque de Alburquerque’ (24^th of April), or the ‘Gran PremioValderas’ (April 10th).

Fashion and activities for children in Madrid’s racetrack

Children also have a space for activities and fun in the racecourse. The little ones can enjoy workshops, guided tours to the stables, pony riding and other activities.
